Review for Nai Nai Story Time
I didn’t know much about Chinese American immigrant experiences before reading Nai Nai Story Time, but I found myself completely drawn into the world of this grandmother and her granddaughter. The book is a unique blend of memoir and history, told in such a warm and personal voice.I appreciated that Anly included a synopsis of pre-modern Chinese history at the beginning to provide historical context. I never had the privilege of learning about Chinese history in school, so I felt blessed reading about it from the perspective of someone who lived through those times. What stood out most was how the author balanced heavy moments like escaping Communist China with humor and tenderness. The historical elements felt approachable and real, not like reading a textbook, but more like hearing it from a loved one while having a picnic. It made me think more about the untold stories in my own family and how important it is to listen.
Nai Nai Story Time reads like a heartfelt conversation with a beloved grandmother. Through personal stories, Chinese folklore, and history, Anly Kang Hsu brings her family’s journey to life in a way that’s both touching and informative.Nai Nai’s escape from Communist China and her resilience in building a new life in America are shared with humor and honesty. This memoir is a moving reminder of the power of family, culture, and storytelling across generations.Highly recommended for readers of all ages!
My significant other Phyllis and I recently read this warm, engaging book, so sensitively written for the author’s granddaughter. This appealing memoir deserves a wide audience for its depiction of the universal immigrant experience. With great wisdom, Ms. Hsu lovingly, with surprising humor, describes her family background, grounded in a historical Chinese context. Through her own experiences and personal values, she offers a rare glimpse into an unfamiliar world for most Americans. Reading it enriched our understanding and insight of the extraordinary struggles and successes of ordinary people.
I found Nai Nai Story Time to be a warm and engaging memoir that’s both easy to read and quietly powerful. The author’s storytelling feels natural and genuine, capturing the everyday moments and major turning points of a remarkable life. I liked how the book balances humor, hardship, and reflection. What stood out to me most was how personal history and cultural history are intertwined. Through one woman’s experiences, you get a real sense of the challenges of immigration and the strength it takes to build a new life. It’s the kind of book that leaves you thinking about your own family stories and the resilience that connects generations. Overall, it’s an enjoyable and thoughtful read — part memoir, part cultural reflection, and entirely authentic. I’d recommend it to anyone interested in stories about family, identity, and perseverance.
A beautiful story of resilience blended with the universal love between of grandparent and grandchild. If you’re looking for a story of hope and love that spans cultures and generations – Nai Nai Story Time is for you.
Review for Bunny Boo
Where is Bunny Boo? is a wonderful early book for little “readers.” We all remember our own Bunny Boos with their half torn ears, well-loved and cherished, and this wonderful story is filled with important early concepts that help build early understanding of “inside” and “outside”, “upstairs ” and “downstairs”. The repetition of language is well composed, and the story itself is just a lovely, warm story of love and familiarity. I gifted this book to my friend’s little boy and he loves it! I hope there is a next story of Bunny Boo, or even a pal!
Sweet story especially for the little one who has ever lost a very special stuffed animal or doll friend. The charming rhyme and super illustrations make this a cute read, bringing comfort to your child. The story is relatable as little readers want to share their own “lost friend” stories! It’s a “read it again” keeper!
Sammie wanted to play with her Bunny Boo but quickly discovered her bestie was missing. So, Sammie’s Mom had to come to the rescue, and she helped them reunite! What a sweet and cute story that would resonate with any kid who experienced losing their favorite stuffy!
After reading this book to her just once, my daughter asks to read Bunny Boo every day! It’s a sweet, well written story with great animation. My daughter finds something new and interesting about the book every time we read it together. Highly recommend!
This is a really sweet bedtime story for young children. Also great coloring pages so kids can interact with the storybook characters. Highly recommended!
